SUSAN LOVE FITTS IS WINNER OF
POETRY AWARDS

Montgomery, TX, October 22, 2001 - Local poet Susan Love Fitts walked away from the Woodlands Writers'

Guild Conference on September 22, 2001, with three awards in the Non-Traditional Poetry Category in the guild's

annual writing competition:
               
              First Place for her poem "Purple Sail"

              Second Place for her poem "Two Faces Past"

              Honorable Mention for her poem "Aunt Leota"

All three poems have been published in Fitts' new book, Licking the Bones Dry.

             The Final Judge for the Poetry Competition was James Hoggard, Texas Poet Laureate for 2000.

             "I am very grateful to the Woodlands Writers' Guild and its members who have been so supportive in my

writing endeavors in the past year."

             Fitts also won third place for "Best Long Poem" in the 2001 Senior Poet Laureate Contest held recently in

Springfield, Missouri, for "Elijah," a poem in three parts about the Biblical prophet. The poem will be published in

Hodgepodge literary publication and will be included in the Golden Words chapbook to be published this fall.
